White Villages
Andalucía is sprinkled liberally with pretty pueblos blancos, or white towns and villages, the most well-known of all these being Ronda. These whitewashed villages such as Casares are historical monuments in themselves, and their people still live according to age-old traditions. Many of the villages near the coast such as Mijas have become fashionable resorts, while still conserving their ancient charm, whereas others, lost in the mountains of Andalucía remain rough and ready olive-farming towns, with a special appeal for the adventurous travellers. A visit to any one of these towns is a rewarding day out any time of the year.
Further Afield
Cordoba, Seville and Granada are some of the most sophisticated civilisations that evolved from the Middle Ages. Each of these Andalucían capitals boasts spectacular remains of their monuments, the most unforgettable of which is Granada's Alhambra palace.
